My Wii Fit Challenge enters week 3

Week three, a super hectic week and to set aside time for Wii Fit feels harder for every day. I have combined the training with learning by listening to educational material I need for my work while doing the exercises.

My weight keeps going like a roller coaster from day to day. Even if it isn’t much, I can see a small trend downwards on the chart. However, it’s normal for the body weight to go up and down during the course of the day and I haven’t really been able to measure myself at the same time which can explain the fluctuating chart. As I always include the muscle building exercises like press-up, jackknife and triceps extension it’s possible that I actually build some muscle and gain some weight which slows down the actual weight loss process.

Since the numbers vary so much, I like to compare the highest and lowest notation of my weight which gives me a total weight loss of 2.3kg (5.06 lbs) since the beginning of this challenge. This is a number I’m happy with and motivates me to go on.

I used to go to the gym now and then some years ago but I never tried any fitness program or dieting before so this. It’s really a new experience watching my weight because I’ve always been the skinny guy who needed gaining weight, not losing weight. I remember when my weight was only 50kg (110 lbs) and it was just around 5-7 years ago.

Anyway, I’m feeling great about this and it will be interesting to see what one months of Wii Fit will do to my weight and how long it will take to reach my goal of 70.5 Kgs (155.1 lbs).

My Wii Fit Challenge Progress – Week 2

wiifit jackknife My Wii Fit Challenge Progress Week 2
The second week of my daily Wii Fit Challenge has passed and I’m surprised that I’m still hanging in there every day. (Hmm. Wonder if it have to do with the fact that writing about my progress in the blog. I still enjoy working out with Wii Fit as long as I do some variations on the training passes.

Both my kids tried a couple of times but got tired. I don’t think Wii Fit is suited as a long lasting game for children. They prefer Family Trainer that they got for Christmas, which is a more recommended game if you want to have your children have fun while getting some exercise in front of the Wii.

My wife needs training but is afraid to step on the Wii. She says she will do it if I can show that it gives results and then she will try it when I’m not at home.

_

The results after two week is a total weight loss of stunning(J) 1.6 Kg (3.lbs pounds). Still, far away from my goal of 70.5 kg (155.1 pounds) but I have patience and hope to at least see some results before this month is over.

Even if I hoped for a bigger change this week, I’m really feeling better and have more energy for other things. I’m feeling less tired and my motivation is on top. I love seeing my wife surprised that I actually follow through and do the exercises each and every day.

My Wii Fit Challenge Statistics Week 2:

Total time spend this week: 7 hours 8 minutes
Total time from the start: 14 hours 8 minutes
Current Weight: 78.8kg (173.36 lbs)
Total Weight change this week: -0.8 (1.76 lbs)
Total weight change: -1.6 (3.52 lbs)

My Wii Fitness Game Progress – Week 1

970efb0363ca4a77b77f46eddff5ecc1 My Wii Fitness Game Progress Week 1

One week has passed since I started my Wii Fit adventure and I’m still hanging in. I’m at the point when the initial excitement is beginning to cool down.

All the training modules are unlocked and when there’s nothing new to the game the motivation is really put to a test. My weight has gone up and down only to fall back to the same as when I started, however I’m still optimistic that the Wii Fit training will give results and didn’t really expect any difference after just one week.

However, I’m getting better in balance with the yoga practices, which is nice. I have unlocked and tried all the balance mini games but I only include one of them at the most in my daily schedule.

Wii fit really gives you a good variation of easy and tougher exercises which you may choose freely in what order you want to take them. I just love it so far. My only complaint about Wii Fit so far is the delay between the exercises could be shortened. I miss a function where you could save and load your favorite training schedule to run them without delays. With this, this fitness game would totally rock.

The Press-ups are my biggest challenge as 10 of these suckers totally kill me but it’s still one of my favorite Wii Fit exersises. I hope to get to the point of trying out 20 reps someday.

_

Here’s my current Daily schedule:

  1. I always start up with 2-3 Yoga Moves as a stretch and light warm up.
  2. Afterwards, I usually take an island lap which is enough to get the heat up a bit.
  3. Then I go into the muscle section and do 20 jack-knife, 10 press-ups and 1-2 other exercises.
  4. Back to Aerobics and do two exercises, usually boxing and step-up.
  5. I end with doing some final muscle modules and yoga stretching poses like the dance pose and the Palm Tree pose.

_

Week 1 Wii Fit Results:

Total time spent: 7 hours (20 % Yoga, 35 % muscle, 40% aerobics, 5% balance)

Starting Weight: 79.6 Kg (175.12 lbs)
Weight after 1 week: 79.6 Kg (175.12 lbs)

Weight change: None

Sad but true, no change after one week. Wii FIt is no magic bullet, as with other training programs you have to have patience and determination. With time results will come. The main thing about Wii fit is that you’re having fun while training and can easily see your progress. This is a great motivational boost for those that find it hard to get started.

If you own a Wii and haven’t started yet – Shame on you – Put it on the floor today and join the fun.  For the others, don’t give yourself excuses, get yourself a Wii Fit and start training.

I hope all of you blog readers had a really nice Christmas and Happy New Year. I sure did, but after all the holiday food, I feel all ballooned up.

One of my New Year vows was to finally get back in shape. I haven’t done any exercise for almost two years now (back then when I got a hernia surgery, I got discouraged into laziness).

My health has declined since then as I’ve focused all my energy into working morning till late nights, sitting in front of the computer.

I never gained the motivation to start training again until now when my wife recently started to complain that my stomach is growing as if I was pregnant. (I’ve always been a skinny person so it’s very visible). icon smile My Wii Fit Training Challenge

So, I thought I would finally put my Wii Fit to the ultimate test. I have decided to dedicate 1 hour every day for at least a months to see how effective this game really is.

Even if Wii Fit is not the ultimate fitness device, it’s a great motivation to easily get on your feet and start exercising regularly. The only thing needed is determination as even the greatest fitness device can collect dust in a shelf if you don’t have the willpower and a goal to strive after.

With this in mind, I created a new fresh Mii on the 1st of January 2009 and my result of the body test is the following:

BMI: 24.84 (very close to overweight according to Wii Fit)

Weight: 79.6 Kgs (174.68 lbs)

Wii Age: 30

According to the balance board advisor the optimal BMI value for me is 22 with a weight of 70.5, so this will be my goal. I don’t know how fast I can achieve this but I’ll keep trying until I reach it.

_

The second day, 2009-01-02,  my weight raised with 0.4 to 80kgs which the balance board in Wii fit quickly explained that could have to do with the fact that I measured my weight at a different time of the day. The first day I did it around 12:00 and the second day around five hours later. My BMI had increased to 24.97 and almost in line with the overweight area.

_

Today, 2009-01-03 is my third Wii Fit training day and due to time limitations, I did 30 minutes of training in the morning and 30 minutes in the evening and did the body test even later than yesterday (23:30). My result was again a disappointing gain of 0.4 leaving me in the overweight area with 80.4kgs and a BMI of 25.09. Annoying, but I will have patience and try to measure earlier tomorrow.

_

I will put all my results on the Wii Fit Challenge page everyday and post here now and then about my progress. If you are going through the Wii Fit training or are just about to start, feel free to send a comment about your progress or Wii Fit experience on the Wii Fit Challenge page.

I encourage all Wii fit owners to join in, set up a goal and start the fun balance board exercise. Make sure you push yourself to train everyday and feel free to post your results.
