Head Tracking for Desktop VR Displays using the WiiRemote
Using the infrared camera in the Wii remote and a head mounted sensor bar (two IR LEDs), you can accurately track the location of your head and render view dependent images on the screen. This effectively transforms your display into a portal to a virtual environment. I wish Nintendo would pay you for this idea. Well done. If they weren’t so incredibly lazy as a company, I would have faith that they would use this brilliant idea… but they’ll just rest on their laurels doing really great remakes of games they released 20 years ago instead of pushing any new tech. Sure the wiimote was brilliant idea in 2006, but it’s four years later and all they’ve given us since is crappy voicechat and a plastic wheel and a scale.
